You recently should have received your ballots for the renewal of the Long Lake LMD – LLMD 25.
It’s very important to know that this IS NOT a new assessment – it’s the renewal of the Lake Management District that Long Lake has had in place for nearly 40 years. The current LMD expires on 12/31/2025.
If you would like to see the Lake Management District continue to manage vegetation and water health into the future, your YES vote is critical to the renewal of our district.
Without a yes vote the current Lake Management District expires and the LMD will no longer exist.
The mission of the LMD remains the same in the renewal LMD – to promote and support water quality for our lake
Just some of the basics in 2025 alone:
we harvested the Lorna Channel
did an emergency milfoil treatment around Holmes Island
completed two treatments to manage weeds in the lake
and did two phosphorous treatments to prevent toxic algae blooms.
Did you know that Long Lake was one of the only lakes in Thurston County to have no recorded toxic algae blooms in 2025?
If you would like to continue to see the LMD promote and support the water quality for Long Lake, please vote YES on your ballot.
Ballots must be RECEIVED by the Thurston County Board of Commissioners office by 5pm on 10/29/2025.
If your ballot has been lost or you did not receive a ballot, please contact our LMD Chair, Mike Oechsner at: mike.oechsner@whatsuplonglake.org or 360-219-6342. He can get the appropriate Thurston County official to email you a new ballot, which you can then sign, scan and email back to the county to cast your vote!
There has been some misinformation or misunderstanding about the renewal, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to any member of our steering committee if you have any questions. Please share with neighbors!
